Know Your Sofas By Ron Jordan

A sofa is a word adapted from Arabic into English, with the Aram. At this time he refers to the couch, though originally it referred only to the luxuriously comfortable seat guests in a noble palace in the Arab kingdom. Always upholstered sofa and is designed for Reclining and relaxation.

A love seat or loveseat is a small, compact couch that seats two. Already have a small bed for at least that big, but the love seat, as we know, the 1700 is designed to seat one woman wearing various bustle. As time passed, the little couches became known familiarly as the meeting place for lovers (this is a day Casanova, remember). Shame! In response to this, furniture designers crafted love seats as two connected chairs in an S-shape, with the two sitters facing in the opposite direction. This pair separated from the body, but they can still steal kisses if they want.

The S-shaped love seats still old-school style of choice, but its use has diminished due to large space requirements. Small couch-style love seat more general, however, and now a standard feature set in a modern space. Casanova will be proud.

A Davenport originally only referred to a number of sofas produced by H. Davenport Company of Boston in the mid 1800's. Because the company is successful in the United States, the term has become synonymous with a large sofa in the modern United States, especially in the Midwest. Original Davenport Company sofas only found in antique auction, but if you call any couch by name, it's okay.

A sofa has recently come to mean anything from the couch, but the name originally applied only to two-seater benches with wooden backs and arms, as you might find in the verandah or in the room. On the settees, upholstery can vary; most modern settees are as comfortable as a couch, but not as a couch, some styles of settees feature minimal or no upholstery.

Word sofa is thought to be settled in the variations, even though they are two different things. A settle is a large, heavy wooden-backed bench style used in Europe since medieval times the castle rooms. A stay is usually made entirely of wood, no upholstery, and thick and heavy thanks to its development history (they were originally made from wooden chests). Ah, the luxurious castle life.

A chaise lounge is an upholstered couch designed like a very long-seated chair which you can stretch your legs on. He comes from the word 'chaise longue', which means' long couch 'in French. This style of sofa has a long history in Europe and is a standard feature in the home environment of the aristocracy. A chaise lounge is usually thought as obsolete ritzy style design, but these days they are available in various styles, from historical to ultra-modern.

Victoria in England, a chaise lounge that is often called a fainting couch. Items installed in the home for rich aristocratic women in the collapse, owing to the pressure stored in their bodies that are too-tight corsets of the time. No kidding.

Aneh this trend does not survive into modern times, fortunately, but the name lives on. Initially, only a fainting couch chaise lounge, even though some of the features that are not upholstered foot section which makes them more similar to daybeds. As time has passed, the phrase 'fainting couch' has expanded to include a variety of chaise lounges and beds with raised headspace. There are many colloquial term now, because not many manufacturers including chaise lounge "for collapsing unconscious upon" in their ads.
